5-Second Food Rule Dropped

The 5-second food rule states that when food spends less than 5 seconds on the ground, bacteria is not given enough time to contaminate the food. The 5-second food rule has been dumped after a study done by student researchers proved that it may take up to 30 seconds for bacteria to contaminate food believed.

Student researchers at Connecticut College show in their study that bacteria needs more time to taint food than we previously. According to Molly Goettsche and Nicole Moin, wet foods can be taken up 30 seconds after falling to the ground without being contaminated by bacteria, and dry foods can take much longer.

A surprising finding is that bacteria doesn't particularly like Skittles. It took almost 5 minutes until bacteria was found on a piece of Skittles.

Goettsche concluded, "The five-second rule should probably be renamed. You actually have a little more time."
